No. 003 · GRANITE CITIES
Marischal College, Aberdeen
Marischal College, Aberdeen fine art print: a Bower Bird original, giclée printed on heavy matte fine art paper.
Marischal College stands on Broad Street in the middle of Aberdeen, and it is the second largest granite building in the world; only the Escorial outside Madrid is bigger. Its spires and pinnacles were finished in the early twentieth century, and since 2011 it has been home to the city council, with Robert the Bruce on horseback in front of it, holding up a charter. I collected it at dusk, when the granite stops looking grey and starts to glow. The print turns the facade amber against a violet and teal sky and lines the square with fountains of light, all drawn in heavy ink and flat bold colour. Marischal College is part of the Aberdeen Collection and the Granite Cities series. Printed to order on heavy matte fine art paper, A3 to A1, and shipped worldwide.
